Summer is a great time to get some of those nitty gritty cleaning jobs you never want to do. Here are some of the ways you can keep your house looking good.
I originally had the idea to do one cleaning job a day for the month of June and blog about each one.
Except I've known myself a long time, and I knew I didn't have the motivation for that :)
So feel free to use this list to get a head start on your summer cleaning!
18 Ways to Deep Clean Your Home
1. Wipe down the legs of all your chairs. Dust tends to accumulate on these.
2. Wipe down all your baseboards with a wet cloth. Follow up my rubbing a dryer sheet on them to prevent dust from sticking. While you are doing this you will find so many tiny weird little corners like these that are so hard to clean! Have mercy on whoever had to install these.
3. Clean behind and underneath all furniture. Move beds, scoot dressers away from the wall and get all the dust that builds up.
4. Dust all fan blades.
5. Wipe down all cabinets in the kitchen and bathroom. Lots of grease and fingerprints build up on these.
6. Wipe down or dust all light fixtures (chandliers, lampshades, etc.)
7. Touch up any spots on the wall with paint that need it. Stir the paint really well first.
8. Recaulk any areas that need it (especially around the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, or bathtub.)
9. Wipe down all blinds. The easiest way is to vacuum them or remove them and spray them down with a hose outside.
10. Clean out the fridge.
11. Clean out your freezer. Discard any old food and organize all that stuff you've thrown in there over the past months.
12. Clean your couch. Vacuum off any pet hair and remove cushions to vacuum.
13. Wipe down door handles and light switches.
14. Clean your microwave, stove top, and oven.
15. Wipe out kitchen drawers. Crumbs tend to collect there.
16. Dust and wipe down the top of your cabinets and fridge.
17. Clean floor vents. Remove metal vents and air registers. Spray them down with hose outside. Vacuum or wipe down the floor around the vents as dust gets trapped under the edges of the vents. If you have wooden vents just vacuum them really well.
18. Wipe down the front and back of all the doors in your house. You will have more doors than you think! I have 18 in my 3 br/2 ba house!

Next time, break this into a post about one item every other day so I don't feel so overwhelmed ;0)
Love this! I'm going to print it out and get started. Thank you so much for a plan! :)
Awesome list ... something to add is wash and/or vacuum the curtains and blinds. I do that every summer along with the things on this list! Happy cleaning! = )
Great tips! Glad I found you via Pinterest. :)
Found you on Pinterest. Love your list. Had to laugh because I already do about sixteen of these!! You are wired weird like me!!
Dianne
I found you via pinterest too--great list--i think this can fit in before i move!
thank you so much for this,,,so handy!
Another thing you can wash walls with a sponge mop much easier than a rag :)
One that I like to do (and really needs to be done), is cleaning the folds of the door seal on my refrigerator. I have no idea how it gets so dirty!
Great tips for deep cleaning! Thanks so MUCH!
I occasionally pull out my fridge and vacuum/ mop under it. It gets pretty dirty back there!
If the baseboards are not filthy dirty and just accumulate a lotta dust like mine, it's so much easier to just run the swiffer wand on them. Quick and clean :)
Well, I'm feeling pretty Martha Stewart! LOL...More than half that list I do on a regular basis. 1/4 doesn't apply to me (like floor vents) but then there is that silly pesky fridge :$
Thanks for the list! I'm going to print it as an encouragement.
OR....YOU CAN JUST PAY A PROFESSIONAL MAID SERVICE..LIKE ME...AND ALL THIS IS DONE IN ONE DAYS WORK FOR SUPER CHEAP...NO WORRIES...BUT GREAT POST...ALSO HERE IS A SUPER EXCLUSIVE TIP FOR ANY BLINDS...DRY RAG..WET RAG..AND THEN A RAG WITH PLEDGE..YOU WILL BE VERY PLEASED WITH THE RESULTS..
You can also use a swiffer dry cloth sweeper to dust your walls, takes all the dust and webs down for in-between cleanings...just glides around the walls!
A few other cleaning suggestions could be wipe down or clean out closets shelves and inside cabinets, clean ashes out of fireplaces if you have a fireplace, shampoo carpets, wash and/or polish linoleum or hardwood floors and wash windows.
My mother would also make us wash all the walls, steam clean the carpet, and clean the window screens (soap and water rinse with a hose) to this day the smell of murphys oil soap makes me feel at home:)
Nice collection of tips! I learned most of these the hard way because I moved several times in a short period of time. You not only discover how much stuff (read: junk) you have until move, you also realize how dirty every nook and cranny is! Now that I've moved into my own new house I'm planning on being diligent because it's much easier to clean a little dirt often than a LOT of dirt once a year (or two, three...).
This is what us oldies call "spring cleaning". Start in the early spring and do one room at a time until each room is sparkling. Really should be called "spring and summer cleaning", because takes that long to finish. Off to clean and wax my kitchen cupboards!
Easy way to clean the microwave is to microwave a bowl of vinegar water for 5 mn. Wipe it down immediately after with a rag. :)
I found a nice, wide, rectangular dust mop with a washable cover that works great for walls!
I do most of these... some I combine. But, I do one thing a month through out the year so it's not so daunting. EX. February is clean the oven inside and outside & clean the fridge inside, outside, pull away from wall. May is closets (clean out, organize, wipe down shelves, clean doors). I also had the kids do the baseboards- they wear dads old socks (damp) on their hands and "race" their "cars" along the baseboards!
Thanks for sharing! I need to do 2 of these a day to get it done before y daughter's wedding and everyone comes over. I better get busy!
Sending Hubby off to do all log size quilts at his parents. I'm asking shirts to mine and fabreez all furniture and beds closets etc. This was a great lead in. Glad I found your post for a starting direction.
Need a button for easy printing so you won't get ads and everything el
se.
Best way to clean ceiling fans - grab an old or cheap pillow case, put it over the blades, snug the opening around the blade and pull back. All the dust goes in the pillowcase and not all over your head!
How about the windows and the screens? One sure way to have all that cleaning go to waste is to have screens that are full of lint blocking out the sunshine. Vinegar and water clean off the dust and grease quickly.
Also, TAKE BABY STEPS. The list is 18 items, not 18 days. Maybe you won't get ALL of one step done in a given day (or even a given week!), but don't worry about how long it takes to check off a point. The KEY thing is that you are getting these things done!
Just found you via Pinterest- which is so funny! I went to high school with your husband.
Fantastic blog- definitely becoming a reader.

This is a great list. I like to pick one job like many of these and add it into my routine once a week during the summer. We do the bigger jobs like vents and screens together, usually on a Saturday.
Great post! I, also, found you on Pinterest. A few of these items were already on my list. They KEY is getting to them. Thanks for the great list!
When I first saw this on pinterest, I thought " i've seen that somewhere...." lol sweet ;)
My mom's idea of cleaning was to stick a mop into a fresh bucket of hot water and Murphy's Oil Soap and let it simmer until her church group arrived....then the bucket and us kids would be bid a hasty adieu....I thought my house was clean until i decided to sell it and move. I'm aghast at the amount of crud! Thanks for the great ideas!
I started doing this back in June. I hit on pretty much every one of these! I am so proud of myself! : ) My son just moved home, switched bedrooms with him so my grandbabies can come stay with us. At least the house is clean under all this STUFF now! HOPE to have it all rearranged in a couple of weeks! : )
Found you on Pinterest. Yours and all the other comments are great suggestions. This summer I've done the floor to ceiling cleaning in 2 bathrooms, dining room, home office, and hallway #1. Still have hallway #2, bedrooms, and finally kitchen. I've been teaching my adult children that you have to remove everything out of bathroom to really get it clean. It works for me. Thanks for sharing.
Next, tips for the car?
Thanks! This is great
Gotta love Pinterest! Thanks for the list~
ok wow someone has too much time on their hands i get this done every spring and fall good luck
great list. i actually do quite a few of these already, but it is nice to see everything written out in a list! thanks! :)
Cleaning isn't so bad when you do an extra everyday x 15 days. I have an added tip for window blinds, use a dryer sheet instead of water the same way you use them for base boards, it's easier than taking them outside and it works perfect!
wow. I didn't think I was that much of a clean freak but I guess I am. I do everything on this list at least once a week. Plus a TOOOOOOOON more. Maybe its the 4 cats and 3 kids... I just know that I don't have time to let it get bad at all. I can't imagine doing this stuff any less than once a month.
I'm in the process of trying to get into a routine and this will definitely help! I've done several things on this list just this week as they've begun to bother me, but printing this and adding a few things (removing a few, too) and it'll be a great cheat sheet for me!
I have a friend who runs her register covers thru the dishwasher and they come out clean every time. Great list! I am getting ready to sell my house. I will have to do this! Thanks!!!
Start at the TOP and clean DOWN. Start in the BACK of a room and work OUT of it. Start in the back of the house and work towards the front. But most of all start at the top of any and all rooms and bring all the dirt down .. last thing you do is the floors and then out of that room.
Re vacuuming blinds: I found that my vac was a little to strong for the blinds so I pulled an old knee-hi stocking over it.
Any tips on how to easily clean the insides of the window sills? Mine get crazy dirty in the summer. I have tried lots of methods, but there is no easy way.
Great idea!
Found you on Pinterest... Love the list. Im printing and going to start my way through it. Thank you
Concerning #17...Clean floor vents. While you have your vents off, don't forget to vacuum down inside the vent. A lot of dirt accumulates over time, plus kids tend to drop small toys down there too!
Your list is great and a motivator! I am printing off to get started.
I use a Swiffer with the wet cloths to clean everything-- window blinds, walls, doors, vents, and even use the cloths by themselves to clean the furniture.
Where can I buy it?
I always took my blinds down and washed them in the bathtub. Great list. Thanks.
I use a new paint brush to dust hard to get at areas like the baseboards you have pictured
Great list, but most of these things should be done at least monthly!
For those sometimes hard to clean lamp shades...I use a lint roller! Works like a charm : )
I found it on pinterest and totally saving it as it contains great cleaning tips! Cleaner Jobs
I'm also one of the Pinterest addict and I was very pleased to find your post. It can be very useful, but also a little hard to complete every point in one day. Hopefully, I will get the some help from my husband :)
By the way, you can check my blog for tips on how to clean leather furniture.
Seriously DON'T use caulk around a sink or bath, you need to use specialist waterproof sealant for that or you're going to end up with a whole lot of damp and damage. Caulk is an amazing decorators tool but should only be used to seal anything that doesn't need to be waterproof!
Gorgeous tips...i like all the ideas for deep cleaning of a house!Cleaning Service
My roommate does all this on a daily basis.
another to add: take out all window screens and hose them down
Have to add one very important one...
detach the hose on the back of the dryer and vacuum out all the lint to prevent fires. That same day I wipe down the sides and front of washer and dryer and wash out the liquid detergent drawer ( or it will grow mold and smell up your clothes!)
It is nice to have a consolidated list. Thank you. I like your blog and have subscribed via email. Best wishes!
The only thing I would add to your list is start on the ceiling & work down to the floors. =) Great job!
Thanks for the list of all the little things I forget and some I'd like to forget!
Great ideas here, but what impressed me the most was the number of doors!! I have a 3bed/2bath house and also counted 18 doors. That's just crazy! Some of them are smaller doors (double doors to closets, narrow closet...). Sheesh! Why do we need so many doors? ;)

Great ideas, Rebecca! House deep cleaning is very important for the health of my family, so when I deep clean my bathroom I try to use only natural cleaning products. I follow the tips and use the recipes shown in this article: http://www.housekeeperlondon.com/how-to-clean-your-bathroom-naturally/.
Love that idea!
I have done most of these things on the list! Phew :)

Love that someone mentioned the detergent cup on your washer. I typically tell people on my Facebook page to go do a "random act of cleanliness" like these on a weekly basis. Big area of forgetfulness: Filters. The filter on your fridge water, air purifier, central air, vacuum cleaner, car air filter, pool, coffee pot (just learned about those! They're at the bottom of the water reservoir, usually) and dishwasher (oh yeah, those bad boys have filters! Pull that puppy out, especially if you rent or if you're not the original owner!). Chances are, if it has a motor, or if it moves air or liquid, it has a filter!
I always clean my dishwasher! Otherwise the dishes smell awful when they come out. I know some people use lemonade Kool-Aid, but I just scrub it down with some soap and water and then put baking soda in the detergent holder. Leave the baking soda in for a few hours (or overnight) and it sucks up anything that smells bad. Then I do a full cycle with no dishes or detergent. Works like a charm!
My friend mentioned to me your blog, so I thought I’d read it for myself. Very interesting insights, will be back for more! North Vancouver window cleaning
umm. wow. I like how some of you arent like "thanks for the ideas" but instead are like "Oh, I already do that like everyday." congratulations...SOME people have to work full time jobs and trying to deep clean our house is just a TAD bit difficult from work. and super cool for you ladies that are fortunate enough to afford any sort of maid service, obviously, not all of Americans can do that at this time. if youre not worried about it, why come on here and flaunt it?
I think this is the best blog I have been through all this day.
residential cleaning company toronto
Wash bed pillows annually. can wash two at a time with a couple of towels baking soda and Clorox.
No wonder why you get so many feedbacks
carpet cleaner auckland
Great job done by you!
scottsdale carpet cleaning
another one to add: when my swiffer duster is dirty and ready to be thrown out, I first pull out my oven drawer and 'dust' the floor with it. Then I just wipe the floor with a wet rag and it's clean. Now I throw out the really gross duster.
Nothing can beat the clean you get from having professional carpet cleaning services. You may think you're saving time and money by renting one of those do-it-yourself carpet cleaning machines at the local hardware store or supermarket, but they are not capable of cleaning as deeply or as thoroughly as the professional carpet cleaning services you'll get from professional carpet cleaning service.

I believe I have OCD because I tend to do all of these A LOT. In addition to ripping kids socks off their feet when they come home from school just to fill washer. Don't forget to clean on top of frig. So nasty up there too.
I have no problem about home cleaning because I have a good cleaning professional service in my city which is very beneficial for my all home. Their well-trained team provides effective cleaning service to us and I want to suggest this great cleaning company which is Home Cleaning Sydney service.
